The Burundi Initiative
BURUNDI – MissionConnect has a vision for reaching the East African Community from a ministry center based in the capital of Burundi. The EAC comprises many nations including Zambia, South Sudan, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania. We been in training relationship with Evariste Harerimana, the national director of Every Home for Christ, as we advance gospel-centered ministry in this region together.
“Eva” and his wife, Goreth (gohr-et-ee), bring instant credibility to our desire to bring gospel impact to up to nine countries within the EAC. Speaking over ten languages and dialects, this power couple bring multiple years of mission experience and gospel-centered impact to our relationship. Eva and MissionConnect President, Mike Contreras, have trained leaders in several countries in previous years and now seek to combine forces to bring sustainability to the regional mission outlook.
In April of 2022, Mike Contreras introduced our BAM platforms to a congress of over 20 delegates in the capital of Bujumbura. A new foundation (UMOJA CENTER) was born to begin the sustainability process. Instantly, God provided two BAM projects which were then funded by a MissionConnect donor. Today, we look at two streams of mission funding for the region as we pray and seek God’s blessing on other avenues of mission funding.
A ready to purchase offer was made to the UMOJA leadership and we are seeking the Lord’s will concerning this matter. This promising BAM project would instantly give the ministry the resources to begin regular leader training and to send sustained missionaries to the field. We hope to send our first evangelist and trainer out in April 2023.
Primary to our collective heart is the discipleship of those who will lead UMOJA CENTER for the future. Currently we have three young men in whom we are investing time and resources to build an infrastructure for longevity and secure a handoff when the time comes.
IN 2019 Mike Contreras was meeting with a donor and discussing the idea of doing a business-as-mission (BAM) project in Burundi, Africa with Evariste Harerimana.
As the Coronavirus swept through the world in 2020, the realities of this happening seemed unlikely. However, due to extreme in-country devastation (see picture at left), many have reached out to us and more attention than ever has been put on making our BAM center a reality in 2022.
The Burundi Initiative is now underway! We are combining the vast experience and resources of the various organizations and personnel, and have created a strategic goal for MissionConnect to provide the initial $250,000 of needed capital to begin the construction process.
Utilizing the partnership platforms which allowed the model in Mexico to gain traction, we are employing the necessary resources and leadership to see this a success on behalf of God’s kingdom work for generations to come.
What is needed now is time to promote the initiative, for God’s people to hear the need, and a resounding movement of the Holy Spirit to lead people to participate with generosity.
Please pray with us that God would continue to provide what he has called us to in this endeavor. His will be done on Earth as it is in heaven according to his great riches in glory in our Lord Jesus Christ!
This is where you come in.
A generous donor has already donated the first $50,000 towards this project. That means from the start, we are already 20% funded. But we need your participation to meet the goal and move this to completion!
